Senior Editor Patti Rebmann
2006-03-18-4:28 p.m.

Patti Rebmann has a 16 year background in publishing and writing. For over a year now, she has been Senior Editor for SUITE Magazine. She has recently been named Senior Editor at Silk's Vault Publishing. She is also an editor for Inara Press, which will be celebrating its grand opening on April 3, 2006!

I recently had the honor of interviewing Patti. This is what she had to say.

Trista: Could you give us a brief description of your job, as you see it?

Patti: The Senior Editor heads the editing team and makes sure the publishing process runs at a smooth pace, from the time of the author submission to the time of the books release. She makes the final decsion on the book before it is published. She also deals with Agents, cover artists, models, Promotional Directors, Managers, Television Representatives and so on...

Trista: What is the current acceptance ratio?

Patti: We are open to submissions at this time, so that is undetermined. We publish six titles per month, with a three month waiting period from the signing of the contract to the release date.

Trista: What makes one query letter or synopsis stand out above others?

Patti: They both need to be clear and to the point. No grammatical errors or spelling errors. If I see that then I know the book will be a problem. I look for an author who knows what their book is about from beginning to end. And if the author can show me that within the first paragraph of the query or synopsis and hook me, they can definitely color me interested.

Trista: Describe the “dream” submission.

Patti: A well written story with 3D characters, a great story plot and have virtually flawless writing.

Trista: Describe the “nightmare” submission.

Patti: A book that does not follow the guidelines, has redundancies, bad grammar, spelling errors, a book filled with author narrative, and a book that was not researched well on the subject it has been written about. I see books coming in where a convict becomes an FBI agent within a week! We all know in reality THAT would never happen so what would make an author believe their readers would think the same? Do your homework before you submit to Silks Vault.

Trista: What advice would you give writers who are considering a submission to Silk’s Vault?

Patti: Research! Check our guidelines and familiarize yourselves with our site. Find out what the market wants, what is hot. Make sure you know what you are talking about in your stories. If you are writing a fantasy novel make sure the elements are there. A paranormal...make sure you have a werewolf, vampire or any kind of shapeshifter lurking. Take care to watch your POV...I am a huge stickler with that. Make sure your dialog is smooth and no tag lines...he said, she said, we said, they said...have a solid plot and a happily ever after ending.

Trista: Are there any other thoughts you'd like to leave us with?

Patti: We are accepting new authors. Do not become discouraged. We are open to new submssions so feel free to send us your work.

Trista: Wonderful information, Patti! Thank you so much for your time!

Patti: Thank you for having me, Trista. You are welcome!
